Treyarch offers insight into the competitive modes of Black Ops Cold War

The big reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer is out in the open for all to see. Earlier today, Treyarch developers showcased a ton of different aspects of multiplayer. This ranges from weapons to maps to modes and everything in between. One aspect of the reveal that many glossed over, however, was the talk about the competitive side of things. In this article, we’ll break down what Treyarch had to say about the scene in Black Ops Cold War.

Competitive Black Ops Cold War

This past year, Infinity Ward royally fumbled the ball when it came to the competitive side of Modern Warfare. There was extremely little support, virtually no communication, and fans and players were fed up with the developers very early on.

However, Treyarch has always been more in touch with the competitive side of Call of Duty. This was evident in the multiplayer reveal stream when a couple of developers touched on the competitive scene. While there wasn’t much information disclosed, we did take away a couple of important details.

For starters, these competitive game modes seem to be all but confirmed:

  • Hardpoint
  • Search and Destroy
  • Control

Control makes its return from Black Ops 4 much to the community’s delight. However, some are wondering if the new mode, VIP Escort, could be tested for competitive play. That’s one aspect we’ll have to wait and see about.

In regards to more concrete details, Treyarch revealed how Hardpoint is changing in Black Ops Cold War. The spawn systems are being reworked for the mode, which is amazing to hear, and there’s also a new feature that allows players to see where the next Hardpoint is. This could be a good quality of life change, but it’s unclear if this will be in play for the Call of Duty League.

Lastly, we have gotten a teaser about a Ranked Mode in BOCW. On the early access live streamers, viewers could see a promotion for the COD League.

At second glance, this appears to be a Message of the Day. However, it could be Treyarch hinting that a Ranked Mode is arriving within multiplayer. This would be a huge boost for the competitive community if true.

We should hear more about Black Ops Cold War multiplayer before the open beta on October 8. Until then, make sure to stay tuned to Daily Esports for all Call of Duty news.
