The Esports Combine 2020 Sees Over 1000 Gamers Showcase Skills for College Coaches

The Esports Combine 2020 just completed its inaugural virtual esports conference that saw a number of hopeful video game players taking part in skills challenges while listening to industry professionals speak on panels and hoping to earn collegiate esports scholarships. The scouting combine, facilitated by Indiana Esports Development, witnessed 1K gamers engaging in activities with over 65 universities attending looking to sign players for collegiate esports scholarships.

As it stands there are approximately 175 colleges and universities that field esports teams at the non-varsity and varsity levels. Some of those 175 schools have active programs that award scholarship money to players attending the institution with full-fledged support from the individual schools.

Many of these schools participate and are members of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and TESPA.

Indiana Esports Development is a partnership formed between Harena Data and Indiana Sports Corp. The Combine served “as a celebration of esports and its ever-increasing place in the academic world and will help players receive varsity team offers and scholarships from colleges and universities throughout North America.”
