Team Liquid eliminated from One Esports Invitational Singapore

The Team Liquid roller coaster is on the descending trajectory once again. The One Esports Dota2 World Pro Invitational Singapore run came to an end for the European squad after an underwhelming group stage performance, where the only point scored came from a tied series with PSG.LGD Gaming.

Starting the season under the Team Liquid banner, the five former Alliance players struggled to find success in the early non Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) tournaments, but they delivered when it mattered. Qualified for the first major of the season, they placed top 6 and secured 900 DPC points, which was a great improvement considering their results at DreamLeague Rotterdam and ESL One Hamburg 2019. Moving forward, they absolutely crushed the European qualifiers for the second Major.

Team Liquid was the only squad to secure a ticket to the Leipzig Major undefeated, their feat of strength being mirrored only by Fnatic in the SEA qualifiers for the same tournament.

Given their recent results, Liquid came to Singapore as one of the teams to look out for, but although they seemed to have figured out the intricacies of the new patch, the group stage matches at One Esports Invitational turned out to be a real challenge. Day one ended with two losses for them, so they needed a strong showing on day 2. Unfortunately, all they could achieve was a draw score with PSG.LGD. Their final series in the tournament was more of a clumsy pub.

“I don’t mean to be disrespectful to anyone playing in this tournament, but this was the most entertaining game so far,” said BSJ at the end of game one between Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses. Liquid ran an interesting four core lineup, with their captain and support player Aydin “iNSaNiA” Sarkohi on Chaos Knight. Their way too greedy draft got them in trouble from the early laning stage and had no real power to mount a comeback. Game two was even a bigger bloodbath, with EG picking Techies for Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen, who made the hero work in spite of the removal of all EXP talents from the game.

While Team Liquid are sent packing early, EG’s 2-0 victory placed them at the top of group B, and it will pit them tomorrow, December 19, against Team Secret in the upper bracket semifinals.
