LetsPlay.Live and Riot Games have teamed up to provide Oceania with its own path to international Valorant competition through the Valorant Oceania Tour. Organizer LetsPlay.Live will host the multi-phase competition, which will include a combined $50K AUD ($38.1K USD) prize pool.
The initial announcement for the 2021 Valorant Champions Tour, Riot’s official global competition series, did not list OCE as a distinct region, with the plan instead to provide teams in the region with “qualification paths through North American events.” This is in line with Riot’s recent decision to terminate its professional League of Legends league in OCE and allow the region’s players to qualify as North American residents to participate in the LCS.
By partnering with a local organizer, Oceania will now have a distinct Valorant ecosystem which feeds into official global qualification opportunities. Similarly, ESL Gaming and Guinivere capital recently joined forces to revive professional-level League of Legends competition for the region.
