Overwatch League Reports Season-High Viewership for Second Week of Playoffs

Activision Blizzard has reported that Week 2 of the Overwatch League playoffs reached the highest viewership of the season. The competition saw a global live+3 average minute audience of 375K, up 41% from Week 1.

Live+3 is the OWL’s primary viewership metric. It includes the live broadcast as well as VOD/rebroadcast viewership for the following three days. The metric allows esports broadcasts to better reflect the viewing habits of esports viewers. Due to the global nature of esports consumption (particularly for a global league like the OWL), many viewers are unable to watch a live broadcast, and will instead watch a rebroadcast or VOD of the matches at a more convenient time.

The OWL playoffs have resulted in a final four teams which are currently residing under quarantine in South Korea where they will compete in-person for the OWL Grand Finals. The final four teams include:

  • Seoul Dynasty
  • San Francisco Shock
  • Philadelphia Fusion
  • Shanghai Dragons

The 2019 OWL Grand Finals reached an AMA of 1.12M, up 16% from the inaugural finals in 2018.
