Esports competition platform Mission Control has announced a new partnership with movie theater company Cinemark Holdings to create a series of esports events. Select U.S. theaters will host weekly gaming events focused on Nintendo Switch titles including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, and Rocket League. According to a release, players are encouraged to “drop-in with their Nintendo Switch console to go head-to-head with other gamers.”
Entry to the event will cost $10 USD, and participants will receive a $5 concessions coupon upon admission.
Additionally, Mission Control and Cinemark will offer online leagues for a wide array of games. Leagues under the Cinemark Esports banner will run $15 to join.
This is not Cinemark’s first foray into in-theater gaming. The company previously introduced private gaming parties wherein guests could rent out a theater to play video games on the big screen.
