Griffin announce cvMax's replacement: it's Jin Air Green Wings' former head coach

Griffin made three new signings Thursday, as they’re slowly rebuilding their 2020 roster. After the exit of star mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and support Son “Lehends” Si-woo, among others, the three-peat LCK finalists were facing a rough off-season and a lot of difficult questions ahead of the new spring split.

The mid lane was a critical position to fill for Griffin, as Chovy was one of, if not the most impactful player on the team. To fill the void, Griffin turned to former DragonX mid Yoo “Naehyun” Nae-hyun, once again going for young talent. Naehyun has only two LCK splits on his account, with his summer run ending one match win away from making Worlds 2019.

Griffin have also signed an additional top laner in former SKT and Fenerbahce player Park “Untara” Ui-jin. It’s an acquisition that will give Griffin much needed flexibility in the top lane, after the it was one of their most criticized flaws during their Worlds 2019 with Choi “Sword” Sung-won being at the center of several critical, almost rookie-esque mistakes.

But the most bizarre signing is that of head coach Han “H Dragon” Sang-yong. H Dragon comes from a long, seven-year career with Jin Air Green Wings, with whom the coach accomplished nothing. Throughout 2018 and 2019, JAG was one of, if not the worst team in LCK and after finishing 10th in the 2019 Summer Split, JAG finally lost their relegation matches, dropping to the Challengers Circuit. Considering the success Griffin experienced under cvMax, including three consecutive LCK grand finals, H Dragon stands out as a massive downgrade for the once promising team.
