Fortnite: $3M FNCS All-Star Showdown Invitational Announced

Epic Games has officially announced the first-ever Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) All-Star Showdown.

On the heels of a successful FNCS tournament in Chapter 2 – Season 5, Epic Games is rolling along more competitive opportunities for Fortnite Battle Royale players. Last year, the developers revealed a $20M USD prize pool covering all competitions in 2021. Their announcement also hinted at some invite-only events, which have come to fruition with the inaugural FNCS All-Star Showdown. This $3M USD summer competition will feature the best players from Seasons 5 and 6 in various tournaments. Let’s break down this event and iron out the essential details.

A Variety Invitational with a Massive Prize Pool

Epic explained some minor details regarding this tournament in their blog post:

“We’ll be hosting this event on June 23-26 to give the top Fortnite players a showcase to put their skills on full display for an opportunity to earn a share of the $3,000,000 prize pool.”

The All-Star Showdown features a $3M USD prize pool, presumably spread across all seven competitive regions. It will not be a straightforward Battle Royale event. Instead, players will compete in different competitions under an unknown scoring system. This information could mean Zone Wars and other fun Creative Mode maps. It’s also an invitational, meaning only Season 5 and Season 6’s top players are in consideration. Epic’s post explains the ranking system:

“A limited number of invitations will be offered to players based on their final ranking at the end of Chapter 2 Season 5 or Chapter 2 Season 6 FNCS. Consistent final rankings with the same team across both Season’s FNCS Events will also factor in, so be sure to take that into account when deciding on your FNCS teammates in Chapter 2 Season 6!”

It’s important to consider that sticking together as a trio will elevate any team’s chances of receiving an invite to the All-Star Showdown. Those who change teams often likely won’t accumulate as high of a ranking.

A Brief Hiatus After the All-Star Showdown

The last noteworthy piece of information that Epic provided is that there will be no competitions between June 28 and July 11. Cash Cups and any other Epic-hosted events should resume on July 12. It’ll be interesting to see the best players competing in another invite-only setting, bringing us back to the old Skirmish days and the FNCS Invitational last year.
