ESL Pro League Season 12 to run online; 2021 events to take place in Malta

The 12th season of ESL Pro League will be held online the tournament organizer has announced. The biggest league in Counter-Strike is still hoping to have its 13th season and beyond on LAN, however, as they set Malta as the location for 2021 events.

Per the norm of today’s online gaming world given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament which was global before will now be split into regional online divisions. The league will run from September 1 to October 6th. A total of $450,000 will be up for grabs in Europe, the largest piece of the $750,000 total pie. North America will have $225,000 on offer while the remaining three divisions will have $25,000 each.

This news comes after ESL had stated plans to host Season 12 on LAN with 24 total teams so long as players could “travel safely without larger restrictions” and it seems that will not be the case. The league has instead been moved to 32 teams to help support regional competition.
