Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Warzone will feature 200 players

After its initial release, Call of Duty: Warzone has received rave reviews from both critics and fans. The pace of the game feels fast and frantic, and the weapons are much more enjoyable to use than they are in Modern Warfare. Along with this, most players appreciate the new mechanics Infinity Ward has added. Things like the Gulag 1v1 arena and the Buy Stations were welcome additions to the battle royale genre. Although, even among its success, publisher Activision is still looking at ways to improve Warzone. One of these ways is upping the player count to 200 players in a future update.

Warzone to receive even bigger player counts

As of right now, Warzone features around 140-150 players per each match. If the lobby doesn’t fill quickly enough, the game will start with less than the desired 150 players. Even still, this is far more than the traditional player counts of other battle royales.

Fortnite has 100, Apex Legends has 60, and Blackout, the previous Call of Duty BR, has around 100 as well. However, the maps of those games aren’t nearly as large as the one Warzone boasts, which is around 3-5 times larger than Blackout’s.

It’s because of this huge map size that Activision will soon be increasing Warzone‘s player count to 200, which is a really significant change. Matches already feel pretty hectic in Warzone, but with 50 more players on the map? Things could get extremely fast-paced.

It was Infinity Ward designer Pat Kelly who revealed the potential increase: “For one thing, we are initially going to roll out with 150 players, when you are typically seeing 60 to 100. Actually, I can tell you we are already playing with 200 players. We are going to release that a little bit later.”

It’s unclear when Activision and Infinity Ward plan to roll out this update. However, it seems like it will be sooner rather than later based on how Kelly puts it.
